I currently am unemployed, but since the spring season is coming about, I will not be in any sport. For these reason, I have begun my search for a job once again. I am most certainly going to need a job to have a car, now that I have my license. So far this spring, I have put in various applications from places anywhere from The French Pub to Tractor Supply Co. in any towns from Alden to Cheektowaga and to East Aurora. I have submitted 13 applications as of March 23, but so far I have only had 2 job interviews. My first interview was at Tractor Supply Co in Alden, and I thought it went very well. However, they ended up giving the job to an 18 year old because he could operate machinery, but I cannot because I am only 16. My age has really put a damper on my job seeking, especially with the lack of jobs in this area. My other interview was at Alden Pools and Play on Broadway, and I didn’t get the job here either. I am currently leaning towards Leo’s pizzeria in East Aurora, because they are hiring and my uncle is friends with the owner (so that can’t hurt right?). Last year I worked at McDonald’s in Alden, and I did not like it very much. However, the money was nice, as I made 1600 dollars last summer. Half of that went into my savings account, but this year that will not be the case, because I will be using my pay check to pay insurance on my car as well as gas. The rest I will use as spending money on who-knows-what throughout the summer. So the truth of the matter is that I need a job, and I need it now.

Oh the technology! It’s such a crazy world that we life in, in terms of technology as of late. These new Google glasses seem to be the latest, greatest thing, but I honestly cannot say that I am convinced.  It seems as though as technology advances, people become more and more lazy, and this one just seems stupid to me. Like, if you want a picture of something, is it honestly that hard to pull out your phone and take a picture? The same with social media. If you want to tweet, is it THAT hard to pull out your smart phone and tweet? You might say, “Well what if we don’t have a smart phone?” But let’s be honest, the people who invest the money into this kind of product are the same people who are up to date with 500 dollar smart phones. It seems that this product is for the people who are too lazy to reach into their pocket and grab their phone to accomplish what ever task it is that they wish. It’s ironic too, with the way that social media works in this situation. When the first people experience this product, they will most likely be telling the world how they feel about it, via Facebook, Twitter, etc.  So in a way, the sales of this product could very easily be determined by how the first people using the product like it. And then at the very least, it seems as though it could easily be distracting, just as phones are now. It is likely that people will be wearing these when driving, and that’s just bad news. It’s also harder to control this, simply because the device looks like a pair of glasses, and cops aren’t going to pull people over in suspicion that they are using their glasses. And how would they be able to tell anyway?

In this blog, I will talk about what I hate about spring. I might mention what I love, if I can think of anything, which is highly unlikely. First, we’ll start off with the weather. Spring is really the only season when we never really know what we’re going to get. For example, we look outside on March 20th to find the ground covered in snow, when at this point last year, we were seeing 80 degree days. It is rather irritating and stressful, especially when trying to plan events. With summer, we know it’s going to be warm. We know winter will be cold. Autumn usually starts off nice and then transitions smoothly to a colder temperatures. With spring it’s really a shot in the dark, and this year it’s been depressing in a way. We had one weekend where we saw high 60 degree temperatures, about 2 weeks ago, but my dreams were then crushed when we saw more snow in the following week.
Another thing that I hate about spring is the sports. Alden does not offer any sports that I enjoy during the spring, and that’s very upsetting. Baseball is just too boring for me. I don’t really fit in very well on the track team since I do not run very fast or jump very high, and I am most certainly not a thrower.  I would love to try play Lacrosse, but Alden doesn’t offer the sport, which makes me even more angry, and therefore I hate spring even more. I suppose there is some up sight to the season. Since it is an offseason I am able to have a lot more free time, and that’s a positive. It also means that we are approaching summer and football season, and who doesn’t want that?

This week, I look back to the NBA, as we may be watching history in the making in the 23 game win streak that the Miami Heat currently have. The game in this streak with the most hype so far must have been on Monday night against the Boston Celtics. With Rondo out with a torn ACL, and Garnet out with the flu, the Heat were thought to win the game with ease. However, Jeff Green and the rest of the Celtics had another plan in store.  Green played the game of his career, scoring 43 points and playing great defense against LeBron. Well at least until crunch time. LeBron hit a game winning shot, and the steak continued. They are now 10 wins away from the record, and the hype of the games will only increase. Now as an NBA fanatic, and Heat-Hater, I see a loss coming very soon to Miami. In the next 4 games, the Heat play against the 4 worst teams in the league.  The only possible chance of a loss in these games are their trip to Cleveland tonight when they face off against the Cavs. Besides that, the Heat should be fine unless they underestimate a team extremely. Then on March 27, the Heat travel to Chicago, which is a place where they’ve struggled in the past. If they don’t lose to the Bulls, I guarantee that the loss will come on March 31 when they travel to San Antonio, where a team like the Spurs (1st place in the west) are the perfect streak-ending team. The Spurs play a team game, and they have 7 or 8 players who would start on most other teams, causing matchup headaches for Miami. So it’s safe to say that the streak isn’t going to break many more records.
